Title: Does a fair distribution of health exist? People’s perceptions on distributional issues in health
Supervisor: Tom Van Ourti
Project Description
The concentration index is widely used to measure income-related inequality in health. Bleichrodt et al. (2012) analyze whether the concentration index connects with people’s preferences about distributions of income and health and whether a reduction in the concentration index reflects an increase in social welfare. Bleichrodt et al. (2012) focus on length of life in their study, but it is an open question whether their findings are robust to the health dimension used.
The goal of this thesis is to replicate their experimental study using measures of morbidity (or quality of life) rather than measures of length of life.
