Step-by-step application process
To be admissible for one of our Pre-master programmes your degree must be equivalent to one of the Bachelor programmes offered by the Erasmus School of Economics in both level and content.
There are different target groups who might be admissible to our Master or Pre-master programmes based on your Bachelor programme. Please consult our Dutch Bachelor to ESE Master admission matrices to check whether your Bachelor programme is eligible for admission.
- Studielink is the national enrolment system for all Dutch governmental higher education. More information about how to register in Studielink. A registration in Studielink is necessary to submit your application.
- Choose the type of study programme “WO Bachelor” if you are registering for a Pre-master programme.
- Type of enrolment:
- Pre-master Economics and Business students and Pre-master Accounting, Auditing and Control students select “Advanced Year”.
- Pre-master Econometrics and Management Science students select “First Year”.
- Please note: In Studielink, you must register for the Pre-master Economics and Business, Pre-master Accounting, Auditing and Control, Pre-master Fiscale Economie or Pre-master Econometrics and Management Science

After registering in Studielink you must complete an online application form through EUR Admissions Portal. In the Admissions Portal and you can choose your specialisation, and upload the required documents (see below).
- After registration in Studielink, you will receive an e-mail with the subject “Follow up to your Studielink application”. This e-mail contains a link to the EUR Admissions Portal.
- You can login to the Admissions Portal with your login details (the ERNA details). These will be shared with you via a separate email after registering in Studielink.
- Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation email with a summary of your responses.
Please note that you will receive several automated messages during the application process, so be sure to check your spam or junk folder regularly.
The documents mentioned below are the only necessary documents. Reference letters, motivation letters and work experience will not be taken into consideration.
A scanned copy of your diploma. In case you did not yet obtain your Bachelor diploma, you can apply with just a copy of your grade list.
A scanned copy of your final grade list, or in case you have not graduated yet, a scanned copy of your most recent grade list. This grade list must be official.
If you are admissible, you will be requested to send in a certified copy of your final grade list once you have graduated.
If you have completed a study abroad term, also include the official transcript from your host university in your application.
If you have not yet graduated, please submit an overview of all ongoing courses and the credits that they are worth.
This is only applicable for applicants for the (Pre-)Master Econometrics and Management Science). To demonstrate you have met the prerequisite knowledge requirements, please upload the course descriptions and literature lists for equivalent courses you have passed as described on the Admission Requirements page.

Only if required by our admission matrices for the Pre-master in Economics and Business, you must submit proof of your final or current Bachelor GPA. A minimum GPA of 7.00 is required to apply. This document should include your cumulative grade point average (GPA) in the 1-10 grading scale commonly used by most Dutch WO institutions. This document should be signed and stamped by a university official.
The Examination Board reviews each application individually to determine whether the level and content of your Bachelor degree are equivalent to our BSc Economics and Business Economics and whether all admission and application criteria listed on this website are met. If your previous education does not fully meet the requirements for direct admission to a Master programme, the Examination Board will also consider your eligibility for a Pre-master programme.
You will receive the outcome of your application by email within six weeks of submitting a complete application.
If your previous education does not fully meet the requirements for direct admission to a Master programme, the Examination Board will also consider your eligibility for a Pre-master programme.
Please note: Students holding a Dutch residence permit with study purpose, are allowed a maximum term of one academic year to complete the Pre-master programme, in accordance with the legislation of the Dutch Immigration Services (IND).
Upon receiving a positive admission decision from the Examination Board, you will receive an email requesting you to upload a certified copy of your diploma/graduation statement and transcript if these certified documents were not already present in your application. Please read the information regarding certified copies of documents.
Once the certified copies of your documents are reviewed and processed you, will receive an official admission offer via email accompanied with the terms and conditions as well as a newsletter for newly admitted students with important information to prepare for your upcoming studies.
Important:
- It is your own responsibility to make sure your documents meet the admission and application criteria before the application deadline. This means that if your documents do not meet the application and admission criteria and the application deadline has passed your application can be cancelled.
- To be eligible for admission to the corresponding Master, the Pre-master must be completed within two years.
- Please note: Students holding a Dutch residence permit for study purposes are allowed a maximum of one academic year to complete the Pre-master, in line with Dutch Immigration Services (IND) regulations.
- Check your email’s spam or junk folder to make sure you don’t miss important messages from the university. If you find an email from us there, add our address to your contacts to prevent this from happening again.
