Medal collection

The Stichting Nederlands Economisch PenningKabinet (foundation for the collection of economy-related medals in the Netherlands) was founded in 1961 by Dr. W. L. Groeneveld Meijer. At his request, it was officially based in 1963 at the Netherlands School of Economics, the predecessor of the Erasmus University.

The collection has over 2400 medals that are linked - in the broadest sense of the word - to the economic life of the Netherlands in particular. Viewing the collection is possible through visiting the website dedicated to the collection. The medals foundation is now part of the Heritage Foundation EUR.

A number of medals from the collection are on permanent display in the Erasmus gallery which is situated in the Erasmus Building on Woudestein campus.

Digital display

The Erasmus Gallery is presenting the exhibition Highlights from the NEPK Medal Collection as a touch screen presentation in one of its two medal display cases. Visitors are able to scroll through the exhibits and view over 500 medals, almost 200 photographs, related information and video footage of their choice.

Try 'touching' a medal yourself and enjoy the enlarged presentation. Turn the medal around using the orange buttons and check out the reverse. Or click to information on the next level. The information is available in both Dutch and English.

The exhibition consists of a selection of the EUR's medal collection. Also, the image of Erasmus which hangs over the entrance to the Auditorium or Aula (see Art and Culture map, object no.17) can be found here, in the shape of a medal. Please find the opening hours and details of the Erasmus Gallery here.

In case of the second touch screen display, frequent new temporary exhibitions are displayed.
