On Thursday 16 Feb 2023, alumni of Erasmus University Rotterdam get a special invite to the jazz concert by trumpeter and composer Michael Varekamp and his band. The show 'Narrative’ flows from the musically diverse life of Michael Varekamp, in which the love for Louis Armstrong always went hand in hand with the love for the work of Miles Davis. An intense life in which Michael played all over the world with famous jazz musicians. This produces music in which all these experiences are allowed to exist richly. Music that feels like an African market. Free, colourful and with tension.
Michaels band consists of friends, some of whom have been playing for over thirty years, and you can hear and see that in the fun they have together.

Michael sees his music wider than jazz alone and feels drawn to music in its breadth, be it from New Orleans, the Caribbean, Cuba or Africa. And no matter how you look at it, it's mostly all enjoyment.... A bouquet of influences, a wealth of musical diversity, a band that is wonderfully attuned to each other and who, it cannot be otherwise, make music together with a lot of pleasure and big grins on their faces. Narrative reflects the love for the music and the class of the musicians!
