Reflective practice and self-assessment in clinical psychology education: Students' self-guidance of professional development

CLI Fellowship of Susan van Rijen
Susan van Rijen

The Community for Learning & Innovation (CLI) gives lecturers from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) the opportunity to apply for a fellowship. With this fellowship, they research educational innovation, or carry out an educational project.
On this page you can read more about the CLI Fellowship of Susan van Rijen (ESSB) about reflective practice and self-assessment in clinical psychology education.

Gaps that students experience in the alignment of clinical psychology education with clinical practice (when dealing with situations that require a reflective approach or self-evaluation of their professional development) reflect the foundational competencies of Reflective practice (that is: an intentional process of reflecting on one’s clinical practice) and Self-Assessment (of one's clinical competencies). In this innovation project, tutorials on Reflective practice will be implemented into the Master Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, supported by a Self-assessment instrument for clinical competencies that will be continued during the practical internships. The aim of this innovation is to enable students to develop skills for self-guidance of their professional development.
