Open Access tijdschriften publiceren onderzoek onder Creative Commons licenties. Deze licenties bevorderen de toegang en het hergebruik van wetenschappelijk onderzoek. De aanwezigheid van een Creative Commons-licentie op een auteursrechtelijk beschermd werk beantwoordt de vraag: "Wat mag ik doen met dit werk?"
Creative Commons (CC) licenties maken het mogelijk om creatieve werken vrijer beschikbaar te stellen dan bij traditioneel auteursrecht mogelijk is. Het doel is dat werken, zoals publicaties, makkelijker gekopieerd en verspreid kunnen worden of dat anderen er op voort kunnen bouwen. Creative Commons biedt verschillende vrije licenties aan die copyrighthouders in staat stellen te bepalen onder welke voorwaarden hun werk mag worden gebruikt en verspreidt.
Als je publiceert in een Open Access tijdschrift dan zal de uitgever vragen onder welke CC-licentie je wilt publiceren. Er zijn een aantal verschillende Creative Commons-licenties. EUR beveelt haar onderzoekers aan dat zij kiezen voor de CC-BY licentie. Deze licentie is het meest in overeenstemming met de filosofie van Open Access en realiseert haar potentieel om kennis om te zetten in een effectief instrument voor onderwijs en onderzoek. Denk eraan dat een subsidieverlener ook eisen kan stellen aan de soort licentie.

ND ('no-derivatives') means that others may not modify your work. This could prevent larger portions from being included in course packs. |
| CC BY-NC | Attribution Non-Commercial | With this licence others must not remix, tweak, or build upon the original work for commercial purposes. Although new works must also acknowledge the author and be non-commercial, reusers do not have to licence their derivative works on the same terms. NC ('non-commercial') means that the work may only be used for non-commercial purposes. Please note that this may mean that those within the university cannot re-use your work for teaching |
