Gay pride is about the self-affirmation, emancipation, equality, and increased visibility of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In the USA in the sixties, it was common for police to raid gay bars. By the end of the sixties, the LGBTQIA+ community fought back against police at the Stonewall Inn in New York. These Stonewall riots were seen as the first organized fight for equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people. Since then, as a reaction to these riots, pride events have happened all across the world.
On this page we present the diverse (Rotterdam) Pride events that are organized, and in which events we are participating.
