The article ‘Sensitive ‘heritage’ of slavery in a multicultural classroom: pupils' ideas about significance’ by Geerte Savenije, Carla van Boxtel and Maria Grever has been accepted for publication in the British Journal of Educational Studies. Starting from theories of historical significance and identity, the article discusses pupils’ attributions of significance to sensitive heritage of slavery and the interplay with their identities. Little is known about the ways in which pupils establish a relationship with the present when discussing the significance of heritage of slavery. The authors examined the pupils’ attributions of significance to heritage of slavery at a Dutch secondary school using questionnaires and interviews.
