Annual EGSL Review Day

Annual EGSL Review Day

On 24 May 2017 the annual Review Day was held by the Erasmus Graduate School of Law (EGSL). After a warm welcome from EGSL director professor Klaus Heine, a lecture was given by Professor Kleis Broekhuizen (Professor of Law & Regulation of Financial Markets). In his lecture professor Broekhuizen described how he became a professor and how his former jobs were key determinants for his appointment as professor of Law and Regulation of Financial Markets.

“After all, ultimately law always relates to practical – real life – matters, so it is important for law schools to have people on board that have practiced – or still practice – law”. In the lecture professor Broekhuizen reflected on what this means for young PhD researchers and whether or not they are too unexperienced.

Following the lecture, seven PhD researchers gave pitches on their doctoral research projects. During two rounds presentations were given on among others the insurance expert and human trafficking. After each round a senior researcher at ESL acted as discussant and led the discussions with members of the audience. The presentations by Du Du, Wanli Ma, Yahan Wang and Michelle de Vries were discussed by Dr. Federica Violi.

After a short coffee and tea break, the research projects of Lea Masse, Eleonora di Molfetta and Femke Ruitenbeek-Bart were debated under the supervision of Dr. Lieselot Bisschop.

The afternoon was concluded with drinks where all visitors and participating PhD candidates could further discuss about their research projects and other aspects of ‘life as a PhD researcher’ at ESL.

EGSL is overjoyed and proud to inform you that we welcomed 52 visitors! Did you miss this year’s Review Day and/or would you like to already note next year’s Review Day in your schedules?

Review Day 2017-2018 is scheduled for Thursday 24 May 2018.
