Top 40 Economists: EUR well represented in the top 10

The annual list of Top 40 Economists has been published in the ESB economic statistical reports, dated 14 December 2012. This year the top 5 has been shaken up by two economists who have appeared out of nowhere. It contains three Rotterdam economists, while sixth place is also held by an economist at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

The two highest entries are Michael McAleer in third place and Arthur van Soest in fifth place. McAleer, an Australian born in Yokohama, has been a frequent visitor to the econometrics institute at EUR, and regularly works with Philip Hans Franses.

Richard Tol (VU) once again heads the list, followed by three EUR economists: Daan van Knippenberg, Michael McAleer and Philip Hans Franses.

The article says that this year, the battle of faculties has been tougher than ever. ‘The EUR is still leading, but the UvT is hot on its heels. The RUG has plummeted and the VU has taken full advantage of this. Amongst the smaller institutions, competition is hotting up, with Eindhoven University of Technology and Utrecht University squaring off. Radboud University Nijmegen is trailing behind.’
