Hans van Kippersluis, Associate Professor of Health Economics and Action Line Leader of the Erasmus Initiative is delighted with the appointment of John Cawley: ‘With his experience in the empirical analysis of health behaviors, and in running field experiments to encourage healthy behavior, John will play an indispensable role in the Erasmus Initiative.’

Cawley also agreed to jointly supervise at least one doctoral student at Erasmus School of Economics. Van Kippersluis: ‘John will be an inspiration not just for this doctoral student, but also for all other doctoral students within our Health Economics and Behavioral Economics groups. He is a two-time recipient of the Cornell Human Ecology Alumni Association Award for Excellence in Advising of students, and he wrote a well-received guide for economists on the US junior academic job market. His appointment also enables research visits of faculty and doctoral students to Cornell University, an Ivy-League institution.’
